OPM Brilliance celebrated in Awit Awards 2024

The red carpet’s been rolled up, the trophies are safe in their new homes, and the curtains have officially closed on the 37th Awit Awards! Held on December 4 at The Music Museum in San Juan, this year’s show proved once again why OPM (Original Pinoy Music) deserves its spot in the global spotlight.

This year, the Awit Awards paid homage to the diverse tapestry of Filipino music, honoring everything from heart-wrenching ballads to head-bopping dance tracks. With over 30 categories, it was a night that celebrated the artists who shaped our playlists, TikTok trends, and karaoke nights over the past year.

A Night to Remember

Taking the lion’s share of the glory was Lola Amour. Their viral sensation “Raining in Manila” swept not one, not two, but three major awardsRecord of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Pop Recording. And honestly, who’s surprised? That song was everywhere this year, from jeepneys blasting it on full volume to your bestie humming it out of nowhere.

Meanwhile, SB19 continued their unstoppable reign as the kings of P-pop. Their smash hit “Gento” earned them two wins, including Best Performance by a Group and Best Dance/Electronic Recording. Josh Cullen also flexed his solo skills, snagging Best Music Video for “Wild Tonight.” Not to be outdone, BINI, the P-pop queens, owned the People’s Voice Awards categories. They walked away with honors for Breakthrough Artist of the Year, Favorite Music Video for “Karera,” and Favorite Record of the Year for “Pantropiko.”
