“Kumusta ka ba? Okay ka lang ba? Kaya pa ba? Yung totoo?”
These are the questions that kicked off one of the most heartfelt and visually stunning performances at Magpasikat 2024—brought to life by Ogie Alcasid, Kim Chiu, Lassy, and MC Muah. On day two of this iconic It’s Showtime tradition, Team Ogie took the audience on a rollercoaster of emotions, mixing self-care, mental health awareness, and some jaw-dropping stunts into a performance we’ll be talking about for a long time.
Let’s start at the beginning: the team’s overarching theme was all about taking time to rest and care for yourself, something that’s been a hot topic lately but still hits home for many. After all, who doesn’t feel like they’re constantly juggling a million things at once? And this team captured that tension perfectly—through music, comedy, and a literal high-flying act from the chinita princess herself, Kim Chiu.
Ogie Alcasid Sets the Tone
The performance opened with a video montage that was both relatable and thought-provoking. Celebrities like Lovi Poe, Bela Padilla, and Carlo Aquino answered that one heavy question: “Kumusta ka?” Their answers ranged from "kumakapit" to "pagod pero masaya," reflecting the reality we often hide behind Instagram-perfect lives. It set the mood right away—this wasn’t going to be just any flashy number; it was about the struggles we all face but rarely talk about.
And then came Ogie. The veteran singer-songwriter wasn’t just singing any song—he performed an original piece that highlighted the internal struggle musicians often face as they grow older in an industry that constantly favors the next big thing. His monologue felt like a personal diary entry, revealing doubts about whether he should keep going or step back and let the younger generation take the spotlight.
He even hinted at retiring, but not before he hit us with a scene that was straight out of a Mission: Impossible movie. As he played the piano on a massive platform, the entire thing started to tilt—yes, tilt—and rotate. The man was literally strapped into his seat to avoid falling off! And as if that wasn’t emotional enough, his son Nate's voice echoed through the venue, reminding him (and us) that life isn’t a race and we should all take the time to breathe.
Oh, and did I mention that Ogie’s wife, Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez, was right there in the audience, supporting him like the queen she is? Talk about wholesome family goals!
MC and Lassy Bring the Comedy—and the Tears
Next up was the dynamic comedy duo of MC and Lassy, who reminded everyone that, despite the hardships life throws your way, the show must go on. Their act was set in a comedy bar, but the laughs were laced with tragedy. Both comedians delivered powerful voiceovers about their personal struggles—like MC missing his family and Lassy dealing with the loss of his father. It was raw, real, and emotional.
What took their act to the next level, though, was their death-defying aerial performance. The two were suspended mid-air on a spinning cube, symbolizing how life can feel like it’s constantly in motion, even when you’re barely holding it together. The audience watched in awe as MC and Lassy clung to that cube, a visual metaphor for clinging to life’s ups and downs. And despite the weight of their words, they ended their act with a reminder that sometimes, all you can do is keep laughing—even when life isn’t always a comedy.
Kim Chiu Steals the Show—Literally Flying Through the Air
Then came Kim. If anyone in the room wasn’t paying attention before, they sure were once the chinita princess took the stage. Kim’s part of the performance tackled the pressures of stardom—the constant need to deliver, to evolve, to be everything to everyone. Her monologue was filled with raw emotion: “Ginagawa ko naman ang lahat. Binibigay ko ang higit pa sa dapat. Pero bakit kahit ano ang gawin ko, kulang na kulang pa rin sa inyo.”
You could feel her exhaustion. But in typical Kim Chiu fashion, she didn’t just act it out—she flew. Suspended in mid-air, Kim twirled and flipped through the venue, delivering a death-defying trapeze act that had everyone on the edge of their seats. And all of this was happening while Morissette Amon was belting out a live rendition of Sarah Geronimo’s Isa Pang Araw in the background. The performance was physically demanding, emotionally intense, and absolutely breathtaking.
Kim’s routine was more than just entertainment; it was a powerful commentary on the toll that constant work and high expectations can take on a person, even someone as bright and bubbly as her.
A Heartfelt Finale with Messages from Loved Ones
As if the performances themselves weren’t emotional enough, the team wrapped things up with touching messages from their families. MC’s brother reminded him to rest, Lassy’s mom tearfully thanked him for everything he’s done, and Kim’s sister urged her to take care of herself. And in what might have been the most touching moment of all, Ogie’s son Nate reminded his dad to breathe: “Dad, you won’t get left behind because it isn’t a race. Tigil, hinga, kalma.”
The four performers then came together to sing the same questions they had started with—"Kumusta ka ba? Okay ka lang ba? Kaya pa ba? Yung totoo?"—but this time, there was a sense of triumph in their voices. They had shared their struggles, and now they were reclaiming their strength. “Tigil, hinga, kalma” wasn’t just a line in the song; it was a mantra, a reminder to all of us that it’s okay to pause, breathe, and take care of ourselves.

Magpasikat 2024 had already been off to a strong start with Team Vice’s performance the day before, but Team Ogie, Kim, MC, and Lassy took things to a whole new level. They made us laugh, they made us cry, and they reminded us that sometimes the bravest thing you can do is stop, breathe, and take care of yourself. Tigil. Hinga. Kalma.
